Description
The Krispy Kreme location in Milford, CT on the Boston Post Rd. was recently closed, I believe. Well, thats obvious, considering the fact that the only business it could get was from anybody driving to the Post Mall. The fact of the matter is that it's a big effort to drive all the way down the Post Rd. for residents of New Haven just for a doughnut.
Why don't we get a Krispy Kreme location downtown? I'm sure it would receive tons of business from people all over New Haven wanting to get their hands on a tasty treat.
Let's get a Krispy Kreme in downtown New Haven.

Hmm. How about a locally owned donut shop instead, like Voodoo Donuts in Portland, Oregon?
Locally owned shops are generally considered to be better for the economy than chain stores.

If Krispy Kreme saw a viable market here, there would already be a store. I'm not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme, but with all due respect to Mark, I don't think New Haven is in a great position to be turning away businesses. There seem to be fewer and fewer every day, thanks to the city's appalling taxes and a palpable anti-business climate. (And this from a die-hard liberal yellow-dog democrat.)
Meanwhile, if you're looking for tasty baked goods, I would recommend Lucibello's or Marjolaine.

Krispy Kreme has one remaining store in all of New England (at one of our casinos).
A few years back they shuddered the store on the Berlin Turnpike and recently closed the Milford location.
They were booming with business when they opened but, over time the fad wore off. Their coffee was terrible, and their donuts were wads of sugar.
Initially the Dunkin Donuts nearby the Milford location suffered a huge cut in business but, as time ran on they got most of their customers back.
Folks really didn't want to eat their donuts everyday and their terrible coffee was what really did them in in this market.
I doubt Krispy Kreme is pondering a return to CT. They recently got over a huge accounting mess and filed for Bankruptcy a few years back.
It would be nice to see a few more local donuts shops or to see a Tim Horton's open in New Haven as they have already made inroads here in CT.

Best donuts in town are made by Tony Poleshek at the Orangeside Luncheonette 135 Orange St.
Donut lovers should run, not walk to this donut mecca.
